Ikkat is a famous technique of weaving that incorporates tie and dye threads into true works of art. It is a lengthy and exhaustive process. The yarn is first measured and prepared, it is painstakingly marked according to the design, the resist dye areas are wrapped in cycle rubber, then dyed, then the warp is stretched out and each thread is kept in strict order to maintain the dye and pattern. It is then loaded onto the loom, where the weaver gives it that unique feathered design.
What emerges at the end is a collaborative effort. A highly synchronous art that involves many busy hands, young and old.
Distinctive in their colours and patterns, these Ikkats made with 100% genuine silk and zari.
